Overtime the throttle body flaps accumulate oil and dust causing interference with the flap opening. After I cleaned the throttle bodies and the ICC my idle was perfect. In my case, it turned out to be exactly that. If you’re running into idling issues on your E46 M3 a dirty throttle body or idle control valve (ICV) may be the problem.
